My family and I are a big fans of the delightful Vintage Inns owned pub The Lion in Farningham, Kent and often frequent it for all manner of family occasion, be it a lazy Friday afternoon lunch or a more formal affair for birthday, christmas or mother’s day. In this instance it was Mother’s day with my Nan and a belated birthday lunch for my aunt. It was a set menu of 2 or 3 courses and it was delicious. In the main The Lion plays to its strengths as a traditional old English Inn and sticks to a menu of British classics with a few surprises thrown in.
I chose the classic Breaded mushrooms to start, which had a lovely light and crispy batter not too oily, just perfect.
For mains I went for a beautifully cooked (medium) Steak and chips
And then for pudding was a comedy GIANT (and it was!) Chocolate Eclair with white chocolate mousse filling (interpret that as you will, it was rather phalic in appearance…)
We all enjoyed it immensely, it was a very well thought out menu with only one pudding out of four or five being served hot, which meant service was much speedier out of the kitchen than it could have been (which we appreciated), though we were not rushed and had a lovely long luxurious ladies lunch. I think my Nan’s face best exemplifies how we felt after this meal… we will definitely be going back, and soon!
